Katong dinner

Hungry souls are advised not to continue reading this post.

It was like any other night without our dearest uncle Vincent.

around dinner time, hungry souls all over the block will start msning each other and to find company for dinner. Like any other night, we gathered at level 4 and set off without deciding where to eat.

As david drove out, we finally decided. Katong Laksa. After a long journey along ecp (and witnessing 2 traffic accident) we finally arrived at 328 katong laksa. It has been years since I last went there. How I miss s62 times. After eating the Singapore acclaimed Katong laksa, the guys decided to continue our eating frenzy with "5 stars Chicken Rice". It was only so-so but the bill came up to be not so so-so. I guess it will be my last time there (unless someone is treating me).

Anyway, as we were walking back to David's car, a Hagen Daz shop must be along the way. Unable to resist the temptations, most of us came out of the shop with ice cream in our hands. (TO all hagen daz card holders: your card may expired before you know it, as in the case of darius).

This is the first night that I am not having supper since the end of Chinese new year.

sEpaKkKKk

Had the most fun game of sepak since IHG. I think we finally stopped playing like amatures. Almost all of us can set, kill, pass, receive........ althought not 100% but we are slowly progressing towards it.

There is still soccer and hockey 2morrow. Despite my reluctance to play --I am too nua since MIDS -- i shall "show face" and most likely, enjoy the game as well. Hiakkzzz i am suppose to mug.

Announcement in the IVLE

Saw this announcement in my IVLE. It's from my Heavenly Maths lecturer, who is a damn humorous guy.

Hi guys,

I just got the following letter from the FASS.

******

Dear A/P Aslaksen -
I have your students turning up at Dean's Office, requesting access to our roof top to take photographs during sunrise and sunset, and they claim it is a project for your class.
Due to security and safety concerns, our rooftop access for AS7 is restricted, I would also not encourage students to access rooftops of FASS buildings, as I believe OED would have some concerns about general safety and potential damage to waterproofing in these areas which are not meant for congregation.
I would appreciate your advising students of other methods to obtaining the necessary photographs for your project.

In the meantime, I will decline their requests to access the rooftop.

Thank you for your understanding.
Best Regards

*******

I definitely want to encouarge and reward creativity and imagination in the homework. However, you need to show common sense, courtesy, safety and follow rules.

You also have to remember that if you ask a bureacrat a yes/no question, the answer is always "NO"!

The story I told about a group of students last year who were approached by the police was just because my students had found a very unusal place. The police did not chase them away.

So by all means find great places to take the pictures, but don't get yourself into trouble. Please try to stay out of trouble and don't bother the bureaucrats too much.

OK?

Helmer

CNY is coming

Chinese New Year is coming. Like always, I am not exactly looking forward to it. Isn't it just like any other day with the exception money changing hands, either through hongbaos or gambling. Like every other year, I don't think I will get much Hong bao money. My relatives arn't exactly close and everyone will be stoning away. Worse still, I don't have many cousins around my age. The one that is closest to my age is already a father of a two years old son. Furthermore, I am from the navy. This eliminates the possibilities of a having a conversation based on how sad, pathetic, abused..... we were during NS. None of them is doing an undergrad course now which further preclude topics that is closest to me now.

Seeing relatives once a year can also be a chore. I have to memorise all their "titles" all over again. Why can't everyone be called "Aunty" or "Uncle", we are in Singapore arn't we? "Relatives" also like to ask questions that you have no answers. Seeing that my cousin who is one year older than me having a son, I forsee that they will ask me when is my turn despite the fact that I am only 20 (not even 21). They may also ask question like, "How are you doing in school?" ...., which can actually be quite hard to answer I guess I will have to prepare some answers that will affect them so much that they won't bother to ask me anymore questions.

How I wish I could go overseas during CNY? Sigh..........

I am stuck in SG with tonnes of assignments.

Extra Ordinary General Meeting -- EOGM

"EOGM! COME EOGM!"

That's what I am hearing from where I am sitting now. All the block comm members are desperately finding people to meet the quota. Here I am, typing away in front of the computer while more than half the hall are stuck in the Hall listening to issues that they don't even care. Some of them are there just for the sake of being there so that the meeting can proceed. I was once like them. Then, I was naive and had nothing on hand to do. The idea of sitting down on a chair in an air con environment talking cock seem rather entice then. Now, I have 4 tutorials and 3 assignment due this week, one meeting to attend in 1 hr time and the sepak takraw waiting for me after the meeting. How can they blame me for not attending EOGM.

This very EOGM(can't they think of an acronym that can be pronounced), is going to discuss about a system about shearites changing block and elect new members for the Point Award Board. Am I going to change Block? No. Do I have enough points to stay? Yes. So what do I have to gain out of the meeting? Nothing. I see absolutely no reason for me to attend. Anyway, most shearites won't change blocks during their stay here. So why bother? Just because of one odd case, you have to waste 100 odd people's precious night. That's the efficiency of the JCRC. Welcome, to Sheares Hall.

Disclaimer: All above views my personal opinions, if you are offended, you can always talk to me personally. Despite all that I have said, Sheares Hall is still a wonderful hall with wonderful people everywhere. I have never regretted choosing sheares and enjoying everyday of my life here. Life can't always be rosy, can it?

IHG

It's halfway through IHG now and life is slowly getting back to the hectic way of life. It's all about rushing to lectures after waking up late and doing last min tutorials once again. Well, at least I enjoyed the IHG and the trainings. I am never a competitive sportman by any standards. The closest I went was inter class soccer with my beloved secondary schoolmates of sec 4E and inter faculty soccer in VJ. This time round, I really trained hard and played hard (albeit I played a fringe role in both sports i participated). Hopefully next year, Sheares can do better in the sports I am going to participate.

Tab TV

Just caught a glimpse of Tab TV in the lounge. Woah, I didn't know what great power controversial isuses on TV has on the audience until the very moment that everyone was captivated by the TV. At least I got something out of it -- I know that 1 in 10 000 people can be born with a XX or XY chromosomes defect. In another word, you can be male when you are 12, female when you are 13 or vice versa. Amazing right? You'll never know, you may not be what you are.

MOSS

It was really fun at MOSS. I witness for the first time that a guy was being violated with girls. That's the fun part of changing with people who usually don't club -- funny things happen. Ultra guai looking people can actually dance, people sprouting nonsense when they have a little too much alcohol and claiming they aren't and girls screaming at things that are so trivial (I strongly believe they are a little tipsy or they are just trying to attract attention).

Meeting people who I haven't seen for eons at MoS is sort of a surprise and a rather pleasant one. Eddy, one of my best friend in secondary school is actually there. I miss old times. "God of CS", jingsong and buaya king terrance quek were also there with their poly friends. Chong guan the acrobat was also there. He has become more yandao and I almost couldn't confirm his identity. I miss old vs, everything about it, from friends to canteen food. There was actually people who write to The Sunday times and lobby for all single sex school to turn co-ed. I guess such people have nothing better to do. Ask any one who graduated from VS, 90% would choose to go to VS again given a second chance. I guess this will be the same for most all guys and all girls school. Try asking a co ed student the same question, (from my experience) they will most likely say they feel no sense of belonging to the school.

Sem 2

It's the rainy season once again. It has been raining for the past 3 days and the weather still refuse to dry up. All these rainy days some how make me a more rested person.

IHG has also ended as far as I am concerned. Although hockey didn't really perform, sepak achieved what we set up for. Infact, I am quite happy for sepak since we won KR. I am also quite glad that I got to play in both sports when so many others didn't get the chance to, ableit for short while.

Now I know the feeling of being in a losing team, I am really undecided on whether to stay in hockey or not. I really don't want to be in a team that has no future. Anyway, I can't really play hockey that well too. My absence won't make a big difference. Unless I really train hard for hockey, I don't see myself good enough to compete in IHG next year.

Today being the first day of school means a lot. Firstly, there are new faces in hall and most guys are praying quite hard that there will be more chio bus around. Secondly, we are seeing people we haven't seen for a month of so. Next, the noises and rumbles along the corridoors and common area that has been on a holiday is finally back again.

Hope this semester will be as wonderful as the previous.

Ministry of Sound

Stupidly paid 25 bucks for the cover when everyone else managed to get in with 10 bucks. ArghHhhh.........

It has really nice decoration. I felt like a country bumkin exploring a city when I was there. Taking photos at all the stunning backdrops and wowing at all the rooms.

Photo of Pure (one of the many rooms in MoS)

Each room has its on unique theme, ranging from HipHop/RnB to pure Trance. Since we are Singaporeans, the more popular rooms are the Hiphop and retro rooms. Anyway, the retro room really look colourful and it made me feel like I am in the 60ies.

However, I didn't really enjoy myself. Maybe it's the music, the crowd, or I didn't drink enough. I don't know. Anyway, I should be going there on the 14th Jan again. Hope it will be better.

ps: to those who knows Ow Zhao Hui, stay away from him when you see him in club (especially girls)

Isn't it great that we live in the present?
We can crap about the past events, bitch about people in the past and laugh over mishaps in the past, without any consequences.

New Year, New Resolutions

It's the time of the year again! Everyone is making new year resolutions. According to some Nobel prize winner of economics, it may actually work. "economics" he said, is the reason behind the success of some resolutions. Basically, it means 破釜沉舟,after telling everyone your aims and goals, you won't want to fail them due to egoistic reasons. Mr Sim, the chairman of Creative, said it during his motivational talks and used it when he declared war with apple but failed quite miserably. At least, he didn't go back on his words.

So here are my resolutions(hope I won't eat those words),
1.Gold for ippt (something that elude me since bmt)
2.Pull up my CAP(even 0.001 will do)
3.Sleep more
4.Save more (for SEP)

There is only 5 I can think of now. How weird. I must be still half awake after the new year “celebration” at SO's house. However, at least I know these 5 are the more important ones since I still type them out in my present state of mind.

pre newyear post xmas thoughts

It's the time of the year again where you are poor and know that you are going to spend more. The fact that Chinese new year is earlier this year is not going to help much. How I wish that money can drop fromt the sky and land accurately on my hand.

Everyone in the office is taking turns to take leaves. As a result, the office is quite dead. Come to think of it, the number of days of leave SAF gives is quite substantial. If you were to work like an ox for a year, without taking any leaves, you would have accumulated 42 days (-14 if you decide to sell through flex) of leaves. that will allow you to take almost 2 full months of leaves. Imagine that, for one month a year, you get paid to go overseas for holidays or slacking at home doing nothing. I wonder who told me that you will get no holidays after you start working.

The unsuspecting victim

kinda amazed by the "formal" event (they tried to make me wear formal wear but i ended up wearing polo tee and jeans. I'm also quite amazed by the lack of punctuality in Singaporeans. It was supposed to start at 7.30 and it dragged and dragged till 8 plus.

Darius is the guy I sympathise most. Till now, he still don't know what hit him. I guess he will lose sleep for days if I show him the video. Anyway, I have decided to be a hermit for my next birthday. There is no way anyone can force me back to hall. After witnessing what Kenneth and Darius went though, I guess I shall celebrate my birthday away from hall.
