There are so many types of personalities at work. When I studied diversity in HR I truly believed that diversity is good. The more (greater) the merrier. I feel like an idiot now.

You could not be any truer... Situations like this surface only when there are others who think that the others who are NOT like him/her, who differ in views are wrong. My sister just entered the corporate company, her first job...damn is that a biased place! She comes back almost every day with a subdued mood. Personality/political conflicts.
